DIY Captain America String Art

Disclosure: I am a Fandango Family blogger. I have been compensated for this post however, all opinions are mine alone.

Guys, we are getting closer and closer to the release of Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron and here at Casa Second Chances Girl we are super excited for the release! In anticipation of the movie's release on Friday May 1st, we have been working on different Avengers themed crafts and today I want to share Adrian's favorite: a DIY Captain America String Art. This project was easy and fun to make and only took under an hour to complete. This is the perfect project for the Avengers fan in your life!!

DIY Avengers Captain America String Art #FandangoFamily #ad

For this string art, all you need is a sqaure board (we chose a 12in x 12in board), thread (blue, red and white), blue paint, paintbrush, small nails (we used 16 gauge, 1-1/4 nails) and a hammer.

DIY Avengers Captain America String Art #FandangoFamily #ad

First step is to paint the board. I only did one coat so it looks a little distressed. Then lightly trace the shield pattern on the board and start hammering the nails on the traced lines. Space the nails about 1/4 inch apart.

Now comes the fun part: adding the string! Start with the outer row of the shield. Make a small knot at one end of the string and string around one nail. Now, string from nail to nail, in any geometrical pattern you want (that's the fun part about string art) all the way around until you are back at the nail with the knotted end. I suggest you add at least two layers of string per section.

Now move on to the star. Use your white string, do your knot, and string from point to point of the star. Then go back and fill in the star. End with a knot.

Now go back to the red string on the circle around the star. Remember, the Captain America shield pattern of colors is red, white, red, blue and then white.

We didn't add the blue string since our board is painted blue. I love how it came out and Adrian is proudly displaying it in his room! Now we just need to create a string art for Hulk, Iron-Man and Thor!!

Summer Style

Disclosure: I am a P.S. from Aeropostale VIP and I received a gift card to facilitate this purchase. All opinions are mine alone.

How excited are your kids for summer? My kids are ecstatic. They can't wait for school to be over. I can't wait for a little time freedom. One of my favorite parts of summer is relaxation, especially with clothing. Even though we don't really have an actual winter season in Florida, we still wear less clothes during summer! By less I mean shorts, tanks, bathing suits and flip-flops are the norm!! My kids live in flip-flops during the summer!! I took the kids shopping at P.S. from Aeropostale the other day so they could each choose one new summer outfit for our upcoming cruise. I think they nailed the "summer look!"

How awesome is Adrian's shirt? I want it in adult size!!  P.S. from Aeropostale has so many fun graphic tees!

This is my new favorite picture of them! They look ready to lay in hammocks all day! Gian's shorts are the perfect teal color!

Amberly's tank is summer-perfection. Light, airy and sparkly!! I also love how she chose bermuda shorts!  It's not always easy to find longer shorts for girls and she loves how comfortable they are.

P.S. from Aeropostale has fun, fashion-forward and age-appropriate clothing for kids in sizes 4-14.  Click here to find the store nearest you or you can shop online. They always have great sales and amazing coupons too!!

Feel Good About Sun Protection with Goddess Garden Organics

Disclosure: I am a Goddess Garden Organics Ambassador. I have been compensated for this post, however, all opinions are mine alone.

Sunscreen is a must-have in our household. The sun in South Florida is brutal and sunscreen must be worn on a daily basis. I am very particular about getting sun, especially on my face. My face is usually covered by huge sunglasses or a hat. I don't want the premature aging, sunburns or even worse, skin cancer. Since my family and I wear so much sunscreen, I was looking for a more organic option and luckily stumbled upon Goddess Garden Organics!

Goddess Garden Organics #GoddessGarden #ad

Goddess Garden Organics are chemical free sunscreens for the whole family. They are made from natural ingredients such as sunflower and radish and active ingredients like zinc and titanium. These natural ingredients are every bit as effective as those found in conventional sunscreens. As natural mineral ingredients sit on top of your skin, they act like a mirror and reflect sunlight away from your body. The sunscreens are certified organic so you can feel good about what is going on your family's skin.

I have taken on the challenge to replace my conventional sunscreen with Goddess Garden Organic sunscreens. I have been using them for about a week now and this weekend, they are going to be put to a big test: our family cruise vacation!

Cruise packing #GoddessGarden #ad

4 days of beach and pool fun requires LOTS of sun protection! I have my Goddess Garden Organics all packed up and ready to go!

Have you heard of Goddess Garden Organics?

DIY Avengers Masks

Disclosure: This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc., and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #AvengersUnite #CollectiveBias

It's almost here! The movie my family and I have been waiting patiently for for the last three years for: MARVEL's The Avengers: Age of Ultron!!! As you know, we are HUGE Marvel fans in our home and we are ready for the movie's release on Friday, May 1st. Actually, we will be watching the movie on our cruise!! While we have been waiting for the second movie, we have been playing with our action figures, watching and re-watching The Avengers and creating fun crafts like these DIY Avengers Masks!

DIY Avengers Masks with patterns #AvengersUnite #ad

I first made these masks for Adrian's 6th birthday party and decided that they needed a reboot now that The Avengers: Age of Ultron is about to come out. This is an easy craft and so fun to make. You just need a couple items, kids and imagination.

DIY Avengers Masks

Per mask:
2 sheets of felt
(royal blue and white for Captain America, red and yellow for Iron-Man and dark green and black for Hulk)
Scissors
Patterns (download here)
Glue Gun
Elastic

DIY Avengers Masks with patterns #AvengersUnite #ad

Let's start with Captain America! Place your pattern over the felt and trace with a sharpie. Cut around your tracing.
NOTE: These patterns are sized for 7-8 year olds.

Cut out an A from the white felt and glue to the middle of the Captain America mask.  To measure the elastic: grab the elastic and wrap around the back of your child's head from temple to temple. Cut about 1/2 inch shorter than what you measured. (All kid's head sizes are different so I suggest you measure each child.)

DIY Avengers Masks with patterns #AvengersUnite #ad

Flip the mask around and glue the elastic to the edges right by the eye holes and VOILA! you have your mask! Told you it was easy!

DIY Avengers Masks with patterns #AvengersUnite #ad

Each mask is going to have different features. The Hulk mask is going to need a strip of black felt on top for hair and 2 smaller strips for eyebrows.

Iron Man is two separate patterns that need to be traced and cut out. Glue the yellow felt on top of the red felt.

Here are my Avengers in action sporting their new masks! Yes, even JC gets in on the fun!

I am loving all the new merchandise available in store. While I was at Walmart the other day, I picked up Avengers t-shirts for the boys and the Hulk and Iron-Man hands.

They also had the Avengers on the kids favorite treats. Of course, I bought them and they have been included in daily lunchbox packing!!

I have my very own Hulk and Iron-Man!

Of course, you can't buy giant hands and make superhero masks and not expect this:

I purchased all the supplies for the masks, the treats, shirts and giant hands at Walmart! Be on the lookout, The Avengers are all over the store!!

Oh and one more goody for you: While you are waiting for the movie's release on Friday, May 1st, be sure to check out the new app: Super Heroes Assemble available on iTunes and Google Play!

About the APP: Avengers fans, it's time to Assemble again. With Super Heroes Assemble, turn your phone into a portal to exclusive Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron content. Keep up to date with the latest movie and behind-the-scenes action. Plus, scan Avengers displays at Walmart and Walmart.com to become your favorite Avenger, explore a Hulkbuster training facility in a cool 360 degree interactive space and to bring Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron characters to life with augmented reality.

So tell me, are you excited to see Marvel's The Avenger: Age of Ultron?

Be The Ultimate Sideline Hero

Disclosure: This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc., and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #SidelineHero #CollectiveBias

Youth soccer has become the sport of our choice in our family. All the kids have played at one point or another. Right now, Ivanna and Adrian have picked it as their forever sport. We are at soccer practices and games three times a week and do practice drills the rest of the time. They have a deep love for the sport and I am happy to support them every step of the way! I am their biggest fan and their sideline hero!!

Tips on becoming your child's ultimate sideline hero! #SidelineHero #ad

Honestly, a couple years ago, I knew nothing about soccer. Even though soccer, or fútbol, is big among Hispanics, we are of Cuban descent and soccer is not a sport Cubans usually play. I grew up watching baseball and football so when Adrian told me he wanted to play soccer, it threw me off guard. He wanted to play badly so when he was three, I found him a recreational team and he started playing. It was adorable to watch him run around the field trying to kick a ball. A few years later, his love for the sport has really grown. This season I enrolled him in a developmental league and now soccer is really serious!

Tips on becoming your child's ultimate sideline hero! #SidelineHero #ad

Ivanna had never played organized sports but she had been asking me for a while now to play soccer. She was tired of going to Adrian's games and not playing. She was constantly dribbling a ball around her house and practicing her kicks on the school soccer field so I had her try out. She made a developmental team as well and here she is in all her glory!

Tips on becoming your child's ultimate sideline hero! #SidelineHero #ad

There are tips and tricks I have had to learn along the way. I want to be that super supportive parent that encourages my kids to follow their dreams, their ultimate sideline hero! I am there every step of the way and have learned many tips that have helped me out immensely.

Tip #1 and the most important: Keep kids hydrated!
I take plenty of water and POWERADE® to each practice and game. It's SUPER HOT here in South Florida and the kids need to stay hydrated especially while they are running around for hours at a time. POWERADE® is formulated with Vitamins B3, B6 & B12 to support energy metabolism and a 6% carbohydrate solution to help provide energy to working muscles. Our coaches stop the game and practices every 10-12 minutes for a water break. The kids go to the sidelines, get a quick drink and are back out on those fields ready to go!
A soccer moms ultimate sideline kit should include quad chairs, a cooler full of goodies like a bowl of fruit, a first aid kit and of course, an extra soccer ball to keep handy for warm-ups and bored siblings!

Tip #2: Keep healthy snacks on hand.
I like to have snacks ready for the kids but I don't want them having candy or doughnuts. I make sure to take a bowl of cut-up fruit to every practice and game. I keep the bowl in the cooler so the fruit is cool and the kids really love it. Our fruit bowls have lots of different kinds of fruits like grapes, pineapple, strawberries and watermelon. I also take a couple bananas which I like to snack on as well!!

Fruit bowls are the perfect sideline treat! #SidelineHero #ad

Tip # 3: Have a sideline kit.
A soccer moms ultimate sideline kit should include quad chairs, a cooler full of goodies like a bowl of fruit, sunscreen, a first aid kit and of course, an extra soccer ball to keep handy for warm-ups and bored siblings! For mom herself, make sure you have a cap and sunglasses handy.

Tip #3: Make sure your kids warm up!
We arrive to practices and games early so I can make sure the kids warm up. I have seen it happen too many times when the kids don't warm up properly and they are either half-asleep on the field or they get injured. Get your child ready to play with this easy 10 minute warm-up:

10 minute youth soccer warm-up! #SidelineHero #ad

1. Toe touches. Have the kids reach down, touch their toes and count slowly to 10. Have them come up, take a deep breath and then repeat two more times!

2. Side stretch. Have them stand with legs hip-width apart and try to grab the front of their cleat. Count to 10.

Switch sides. Count to 10. Repeat two times.

3. High knees. Have them jog in place bringing up their knees as high as they can 50 times. If they are first-timers, do this in increments of 10 or 15 up to 50.

10 minute youth soccer warm-up! #SidelineHero #ad

4. Quad stretch. This is super important. Have them stand and bring up one leg behind them and grab their ankle. Count to 20. This stretch helps with balance and to stretch the super important quad muscle. Repeat with the other leg.

10 minute youth soccer warm-up! #SidelineHero #ad

5. Sprints. Everyone's favorite. The coach will usually take over by now and have the kids run sprints across the field about 10 times back and forth.

10 minute youth soccer warm-up! #SidelineHero #ad

Stretching exercises are necessary before and after the games. Their muscles are put through alot out there. Rest is also important. Make sure your kids are resting after the game. It might seem like they have endless energy but they might be overtired. It's your call at this point. All of this has become second nature to us and I know there is much more to come!

In case you are wondering, I buy POWERADE® in team packs and a couple at a time. I keep my cooler stocked and ready to go.

POWERADE® team packs are perfect for youth soccer! #SidelineHero #ad

Look for a coupon on the 12-pack 12 oz POWERADE® packages and you can get $1 off Walmart fresh produce (for your fruit bowls!) when you buy two 12-pack 12oz POWERADE®. Hurry this deal is only available while supplies last.
