Free Printable Lunchbox Jokes

Back to school is in full swing in our home. It has now been a few weeks and I realized I haven't shared back to school pictures with you yet (I know, bad blogger). It's getting increasingly difficult to get things done with a 5th, 6th and 7th grader in the house. They have tons of work and after-school activities to keep track of (thank goodness for planners!) and emotions to keep in check.  Add in packing lunches and our house is full of chaos.

Adrian started first on August 16th:

with Amberly and Gian starting on August 20th:

Going back to school isn't easy on kids either. My youngest gets super nervous on the first day, especially this year when he realized he was by himself at school (Amberly and Adrian have moved onto other schools). I knew I had to make the second day better. I found a way for him to get the attention he craved. I sent a joke in his luchbox. When he pulled it out at lunch, everyone laughed at his joke and immediately he was in his zone.  I make sure to pack him a different joke everyday just so he has new material!!

I found these free lunchbox joke printables on Personal Creations. They have so many to choose from and they are FREE!!! Just download and print!

Make your kids day, pack them a lunchbox joke in their lunch and watch them come home and tell you all sort of stories about their day! No more "good" when you ask them how their day went, I promise you!

Celebrating Zaha and Helping Shelter Cats

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CelebratingMorris #CollectiveBias

We have a big milestone coming up soon, our Zaha will be celebrating her first birthday, her first year living with us and our first year as cat owners!

Thinking about donating to your local shelter? They always need food and treats! Here is a basket of 9Lives® goodies that we donated to our local shelter! #CelebratingMorris #ad

Zaha was a stray, a street cat, well actually a street kitten! (read her story here!) She was the most adorable thing I had ever seen. I had never raised a cat before so I was nervous about taking her home. Would I know what to do? Would she like us? Would Amberly be able to breathe around her? There were so many ifs and buts but in the end, I brought her home. We instantly fell in love with her and she has been one of the best decisions I have ever made for our family!

It's almost been a year and I am still very happy with my decision. Zaha has grown to be a beautiful, elegant, caring, loyal cat and we love her to pieces.  She sleeps with JC and I every night and waits for us at the door when we get home. She loves to give "kisses" and is very vocal about how she feels.

In celebration of our big milestone, we have decided to give back to shelter cats. Shelter cats need all the extra loving they can get! Our own Zaha could have ended up at a shelter had I not rescued her. Giving back is a great opportunity to help out the shelters and show our children the importance of helping animals in need. I called our nearest shelter and asked what we could donate and there biggest request was cat food!  With this in mind, I made sure to pick up some extra goodies while I was at Dollar General shopping for Zaha.

Dollar General has become my go-to store for pet food. They have lower prices than most other pet stores and I can always use coupons!

I picked up a couple of cans of Zaha's favorite cat food, 9Lives® , in the Heart Cuts with real chicken and beef in gravy and the super supper!! 9Lives® is dedicated to the health and happiness of cats everywhere. Why? Because 9Lives®believes your cat deserves to live well.

I also purchased the big 20lb bag of 9Lives Daily Essentials® dry food, some 9Lives®soft treats, a small throw, a food bowl, a litter box and a cat toy. I figured a little bit of everything helps! I used the litter box as a basket and just placed everything inside. I can't wait to deliver our package to the shelter!!

Thinking about donating to your local shelter? They always need food and treats! Here is a basket of 9Lives® goodies that we donated to our local shelter! #CelebratingMorris #ad

Oh and let's not forget the coupons! I have here coupons for both the 9Lives®  wet cat food and the dry cat food

Can you imagine if everyone of us donated just one of these essentials basket to a shelter? It would be so amazing for all those cats to feel so loved. You know what would be even more amazing? Getting out to a shelter and adopting a cat! They need the love and so do you! I mean imagine hanging out on your couch binging on your favorite series and looking over and seeing this? Doesn't it just melt your heart?

9Lives® brand celebrates and champions all cats.

Last Day of Elementary School

June 7th was Adrian's last day of elementary school. I know every mom says it, you know "I can't believe my baby is moving onto middle school" but honestly, I can't believe Adrian is moving onto middle school come August. It's been a long six years though, full of many ups and downs, but I know he has enjoyed it all. Time for the obligatory last day of school pic:

I do need to be honest though, I really thought he wasn't going to make it. Fifth grade has been quite the learning process for us. You would think I would know all about my child's learning by now but I realized a lot this year, First of all, there is a reading comprehension issue that we are working on. Then, there is some laziness on his part along with misunderstandings on mine. We are learning together.  (1st day of fifth grade pic!)

We still don't have a middle school for Adrian but I know the right decision will come to me. I am trying to find a private school where there will be a little more discipline and no state testing. Adrian does not do well on state testing and He really doesn't need the stress year after year. Public school is not for him but getting him into a private school hasn't been easy at all.

I know he will miss all the friends he has made in the past six years but it's time for everyone to go their separate ways. They can still call each other and I know they squad up on Fortnite all the time! By the way, is Fortnite all the rage in your home as well? Anyway, time to relax and enjoy the summer!! oh and just to tug on some heartstrings, check out his first day of Kindergarten picture:

The grand 5th grade adventure has come to end! Bring it on 6th grade!

5 Tips for People Who Stand All Day

Disclosure: #advertisement I received compensation from Dr. Scholl’s® to write this post. All opinions are entirely my own. #CustomFitRelief #DrScholls

Life has been quite hectic lately. I started a new job with my family’s catering business and then back to school and now the holidays, life really couldn’t be any crazier. I am loving every minute of it but what I wasn’t loving was a constant aching back and feet. I stand all day at work and then run all over the place with the kids. It’s a constant Go! Go! Go! I needed relief so I scoured the internet and my friends for advice. I put it to good use and found 5 useful tips for people who stand all day.

Standing and walking all day has its good points. You burn calories and keep your body active. Standing all day however, causes lower back pain and discomfort in your feet. A couple weeks into my current job, I really started feeling tired, achy feet. I have tried many things and found a couple that have worked for me!

  1. Purchase the right shoes.  Wearing the right shoes is super important for someone who is standing all day! Find shoes that are comfortable and cushioned. Most shoe brands will have a “work shoe” section that has the shoe needed by people who work standing all day.

  1. Stretch throughout the day.  Keep your muscles and joints limber by stretching. Try standing stretches while you are standing, obviously not while you are with a customer, but definitely while you are on a break. Search for “standing stretching exercises” online and there are a plethora of exercises you can choose from.

  1. Find the right pair of insoles. A good, custom fit insole is a dream come true. I happened to be at Walmart one day and saw this super cool machine, the Dr. Scholl’s® Custom Fit® Orthotics Kiosk, while I was looking for insoles. I was drawn to it.

Dr. Scholl’s® experts in biomechanics developed the advanced FootMapping® technology used in the Custom Fit® kiosk. It uses over 2,000 pressure sensors to create your Custom Footmap – identifying your arch type, foot length and unique pressure points.

It’s also super easy to use. All you have to do is take off your shoes and stand on the footprints on the machine. You then touch the screen that is at face-level and answer a few questions. In under 2 minutes, the kiosk evaluates all this data and recommends the Custom Fit® Orthotic Inserts that are right for you!

Mine were the CF320. Once you get your results, you just grab the appropriate insert from the side of the kiosk. Easy and painless. The Dr. Scholl’s®  Custom Fit® Orthotics are comprised of 4 layers, each providing a different benefit. Together, these layers provide support and cushioning to immediately relieve foot and lower body pain and provide you with all-day comfort.

Interested? Try Custom Fit® Orthotics risk-free, with the Dr. Scholl’s® Money Back Guarantee. Plus, save $10 on your purchase! Find a Custom Fit® Kiosk near you and get the recommended insert for you in under 2 minutes.

4. Take sitting breaks throughout the day. I try to sit at least 10 minutes every hour I am at work. It doesn’t always happen,` but I honestly do try. When I sit, I make sure to sit with my back straight. Good posture makes all the difference. I feel refreshed when I get back on my feet.

5. Take care of your feet at home. I am not home much, since I am always somewhere with one or more of my kids so I take care of my feet on the go. While Adrian and Amberly are at swimming, I use this time to sit, read a book and put my feet up. While homework is being done, I take a few minutes and soak my feet in warm water with epsom salt. When I take off my shoes, I make sure to rub the soles of my feet with medium pressure. Sometimes I can even get someone to rub my feet. Quick little things like this will help with foot ache on a daily basis.

As a mom, I know I need to be healthy and pain-free as long as possible. This boy especially depends on me alone and I plan on being able to be his biggest cheerleader and biggest supporter forever. I can’t let a little foot and back pain get in the way of being his #1 fan!

Meet Zaha

Hello blog friends! For the first time ever, we are cat owners! Everyone meet Zaha!!!

Zaha is about 5-6 weeks old. She has come to our family as a stray. I found her out back at work one morning. Her mother and siblings had been killed and she was the only one left. All I heard was a little noise behind the dumpster and as I got closer, there she was. I brought her into workI tried to find her a home but ended up taking her. JC named her Zaha after the late Zaha Hadid!

Raising a kitten for the past few weeks has definitely been way different than raising a puppy. She is very independent and plays very rough. Any advice on how to stop her biting habit would be greatly appreciated! We have fallen in love with Zaha and now cannot imagine our family without her!

Easy Slow Cooker Roast Pork

Disclosure: This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, INC. and The Coca-Cola Company, all opinions are mine alone. #ServeWithACoke #SoloConCocaCola #CollectiveBias

Fall is here, school is back in and the holidays are around the corner. With all this madness, it's time to make use of easy dinner options. My family and I are so busy with work and after-school activities that's it's hard to find time to cook but I find the time. Honestly, my slow cooker is my best friend, especially when it comes to cooking pork. Pork dishes are very common in Hispanic homes, especially when I was growing up. I know many different ways of making a delicious lechon asado (roast pork) but the easiest will always be in my slow cooker.

This pork is delicious and even more delicious when served with a refreshing Coca-Cola, specifically a 12oz bottle of Coke de Mexico. The pairings are endless. Taste the feeling.

Easy Slow Cooker Roast Pork
Serves 6

Ingredients:
1 4lb Pork tenderloin
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
2 tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 12-oz can of beef broth

Add onions to slow cooker.

This was the 4 lb pork tenderloin I used for this recipe. It comes in two pieces. I usually cook both pieces at the same time, use one for one meal and then the other for left overs the next day for lunches.

Place pork tenderloin on top of the onions and season with garlic powder, salt, pepper and ground cumin.

Then pour beef broth around the pork loin. Don't pour too much on top of the pork loin because you don't want all the seasoning to come off.

Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 8 hours.

I promise you that this will be the most tender pork loin you have ever made. Once it has finished cooking, shred the pork loin with two forks and allow it to sit in the slow cooker another 15 minutes.

My kid's favorite dish with this roast pork are roast pork and black bean tacos. This is the easiest recipe ever. All you need are warmed tortillas, our favorite are Guerrero tortillas, warmed up can of beans and the shredded pork.

Like I mentioned before, the pairings are endless. I serve this roast pork in classic Cuban fashion, with white rice and black beans. I use it in BBQ pulled pork sandwiches and in empanadas. So many delicious ways to enjoy it but always make sure to pair your dish with an ice-cold refreshing Coca-Cola!!

Visit Serve with Coke for ideas and yummy recipes!

Tips for Swim Moms

Kraft-Heinz sponsored this post, but the opinions are my own.

This post is for all my fellow swim moms. Those of us that spend hours sitting on bleachers, monitoring seconds, traveling all over for competitions, buying swimsuits, and adjusting goggles. Being a swim mom is incredible (but exhausting), and raising a competitive swimmer is hard work. Honestly though, even with all the effort and time, there is nothing like watching your swimmer compete! Nothing!

I’ve learned many things along my swim mom journey and I want to share some with you. I have been fortunate to make some kind swim mom friends that have helped me learn so much along the way.
Tips for Swim Moms
  1. Always carry spare goggles. Nothing is worse than being in a competition and not having spare goggles. Your swimmer relies heavily on their goggles so if possible, when shopping, purchase 3-4 pairs of the goggles they like.
  2. Learn to live on the go! I leave my house at 7am and return at 8:45pm. I have become an expert at living on the go. My kids have swim practice from 6pm-8pm Monday through Friday and the pool is far from home. I make sure to carry snacks and meals with me in a cooler when I leave home in the morning so we are prepared throughout the day. Some items we always have handy are Capri Sun Sport drinks and Planters P3 Protein Snacks.

Even though they are in the pool, I have to keep them hydrated and nutrition is key. I don’t let my kids snack on chips and junk food, especially during competitions. They need protein and electrolytes to keep them going. Luckily, the P3 protein packs have 13g of protein, and the Capri Sun Sport pouches have 25% fewer calories than leading sport drinks, so I can be confident that I’m giving my kids what they need to refuel. You can find Capri Sun Sport at Walmart in the juice aisle, and the Planters P3 packs in the nut and seed aisle.

3. Create a savings account. If you already have a savings account, that’s great but get one started for swim expenses. Competition season is intense. Sometimes, we have 2 to 3 competitions in one month and they aren’t always close by. Save money for hotel stays, meals, meet fees, and equipment.
4. Boredom busters. As a swim mom, you will spend hours at the pool. This is the perfect time to catch up on your reading, exercise, blog, talk to friends, etc… Those hours at the pool are my “me” time!
5. Savor the moments. You are your child’s biggest fan. They are working incredibly hard in that pool and deserve to be cheered on. Savor this time with your children because once it’s gone, it’s gone! Cheer them on, cheer on their teammates, and show them what it means to be a good sport!

Swimming is a lifestyle, and as a lifestyle, you will need to adjust. We have learned over time to love the smell of chlorine and the emotional journey that competitive swimming has put us on. I have high hopes for my kids (hello, college swim teams) and this has given them a chance to dream big!!

Back to School "Extras" Teacher Basket

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Wet Ones® Hand Wipes. The opinions and text are all mine. I received free samples of products from Wet Ones®. This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias Inc. and its advertiser. #BTSWithWetOnes #CollectiveBias

It’s almost time for back to school here in South Florida and I have been slowly getting ready. I have always looked forward to back to school. My favorite part has and always will be shopping for school supplies. I actually shop for school supplies all year long, especially clearance sections. This is an easy way for me to help out my child’s classroom. As a PTA mom, I have insider access to all the classrooms at the school and the one thing I have noticed is that teachers are constantly short on supplies. The school district doesn’t provide much and sometimes students just need a little extra. Every year, I purchase the items required on the supply list but I always take in an “Extras” basket on the first day.

Idalmis Arias - Second Chances Girl.jpg
This basket is something I work on year-round. Like I mentioned before, I am always checking out sale and clearance sections for items that I know my teachers need and usually have to purchase on their own. Items like: extra supplies, envelopes, classroom decorations, file folders and paper, always need paper! I gather all sorts of items and then put them all together in a basket. It’s super easy!

I like to add a printable to the front of my basket, just for fun. Here is one I whipped up in less than 10 minutes and just added it to the front of my basket!

Printable teacher tag.jpg
To print: Just right-click the image above, save to your computer and then send to print. It’s about a 4 x 6 size image!
This year, I will be gifting my items in a cubby because I know my child’s teacher has these cubbies in her room. If not, I always gift my items in a plastic storage container. The teachers in our school use these for filing and storage and I know it’s something they can use. After I print and cut out my printable, I attach it to the front of the basket with double-sided tape.

IMG_6359.jpg

Then I just add the items in by weight and size, usually the heavy stuff like copy paper on the bottom. One thing my basket will always have in it are anti-bacterial products like Wet Ones® Hand Wipes. Wet Ones® Hand Wipes clean up messy hands and kill 99.99% of germs and we all know how important this is for children in classrooms. These wipes clean better than sanitizers and are hypoallergenic.

You can find great savings on Wet Ones® with this Ibotta offer.

One of the main questions I get as a PTA mom is “How can I help in my child’s classroom?” and honestly, the easiest way to help is to make sure your child’s teacher has what they need. Teaching is a difficult job and lacking supplies can make it even harder. Taking the time to put together a basket of items that they didn’t ask for but that you know they use is a great way to help!

Right now, on specially marked packages, Wet Ones® is offering a “Wish I Had a Trip to Universal Orlando” sweepstakes to win a getaway to Universal Orlando Resort™ in Orlando, Florida.
