Art For Our Home

Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Minted.com. All opinions are mine alone!

We've gotten to that point where we need to pick some artwork for our bare walls! To me, this is a huge leap into adulthood. Once you have nice artwork on your walls, you've made it! Sure, we have the family gallery wall but art is different. You are purchasing a piece of work that someone dedicated so much time to. It's so personal. I definitely don't want to go to a big box store and purchase something everyone else has. I want something special. Luckily, I found some amazing pieces on Minted.com. Have you seen their art marketplace? It's AMAZING and most pieces are limited editions so I know I won't see the same piece everywhere I go. I have three different looks I am going for in our home. I want gold and pretty for my room, fun and carefree for the kids and a beachy theme for the living room.

First up: Gold and pretty:

Minted.com has the option of framing your pieces so you don't have to run around town trying to find the right size frame for your print. It also helps when you buy various pieces if you are like me and you need matching frames! Most prints come in various sizes from 8 x 8 to 44 x 60. I know you will find the perfect piece for your home!

What do you think? Do you like any of the pieces for your home?

Ideas For A Shared Room For Three

Three kids in one room? Pretty insane, huh? Well that's the arrangement in our home and the kids love it. Only problem is the room is shared between two boys and a girl. I don't want it to be mitchy-matchy but I want it to coordinate. Not easy at all!! I also can't have too much stuff int here because the kids need somewhere to play! In my opinion, a shared room for three kids needs to have a bed for each child, toy storage, bookcases and closet space. Anything else might be a bit much. After being in our home for about two weeks now, I think I am getting a good idea of where I want to go with the room:

Ideas for a shared room for 3 kids

1. Boys chevron bedding from Target. The boys have bedding in the same color as this but a different pattern. I am not too convinced with this bedding yet.

2. SVARTA Bunk Bed frame from IKEA. The boys already have this bed and it's fantastic. It's really held its own against my two boys!

3. Sheer curtains. I have basic white sheer curtains that I am going to put up on the one window in the room. With so much color around, I want to use very basic curtains.

4. Terra Edison Area Rug from Walmart. Tell me this rug isn't amazing? So colorful and so perfect for a kids room.

5. BILLY bookcases in Yellow from IKEA. These are the basic BILLY bookcases but with a yellow backing. They look amazing when put together. We purchased one over the weekend and plan on going back to get another.

6. 3D Adhesive Wall Decals from Target. These decals go perfect with Amberly's bedding. Since we are placing her bed between the bookcases and under the window, there isn't much wall space left for her. These decals are perfect for the little space left to decorate.

7. Girls Dot Bedding from Target. I purchased this bedding for Amberly last year and it's still available at Target. I mean girls bedding that isn't pink or character-themed? I'm sold!!

8. Dream Big wall art from Art.com. I want to create a gallery wall in the room and it will be created around this Dream Big print.

9. TROFAST storage system from IKEA. This is the best kids storage system. We already have the bins from our previous TROFAST system and now we are just downsizing to this frame. Gotta keep those toys organized!!

10. Glow in the Dark Stars from Amazon. What's better than glow-in-the-dark stars? Nothing!! I plan on creating a cool galaxy on the ceiling for the kids. So fun and perfect for their age!!

Like I mentioned before, I'm not sold on the boys bedding and will probably change it later on. I am doing the 40 Days "No Unnecessary Spending" Challenge so I won't be buying anything right now but the bedding will be changed.

If you don't remember, the kids room currently looks like this:

If you notice the window in the top picture, that's where Amberly's bed will be moved and we will add a bookcase to each side. The boys bed might stay there or we might turn it against that back wall, not sure yet!!

Remember, we are renters so we can't paint or change the carpet. That's why I am bringing in color with the bookcases, rug and gallery wall!!

So now that I have shared my ideas, let me know what you think? Should I change the bedding? What would you add to a kids gallery wall?

In Our Home: Fall & Halloween Decorations

I've mentioned it a couple times about how I am decorating for Fall in my home. I have some decor up already and I want to share it with you! Now, let's remember I am not a Pinterest superstar type decor blogger. This is regular people decor here folks! :)

First up: my wreath. I wish I could say I made this beauty but nope, bought it at Walmart!

I love mini pumpkins and I bought these for $2.99 for a bag of 5. Not a bad deal considering they are about $3 each at pumpkin patches!

I have a crazy obsession with owls. Maybe it's the big eyes (similar to mine!) but I love including them in all home decor, especially during fall! Oh and of course, these are from Tar-jay!

By the kitchen, there is an opening with a small counter that I love to decorate for holidays. I have posted pics of this part on IG (@scggirl) so maybe some of you have already seen this. Right now, this is my favorite section. I love the banner, the cobweb curtain, the glitter skull, ALL of it!!

Usually, I would be creeped out by rats, but not during Halloween!

This super cute pumpkin man has been in my Halloween decor for about 4 years now. I love him. I always hang him outside right by the front door. I cannot, for the life of me, remember where I bought him!

It's been raining almost every afternoon so I haven't been able to do much outside. Right now, all I have are these two adorable figures that I ordered from JoAnn and some tombstones. I need to add an inflatable and some skull & bones and maybe some cobwebs!

That's pretty much it for now. I do keep adding throughout the month of October but it's always fun stuff, not super spooky gore. I don't like that.

Have you decorated yet? Post your links in the comments below so I can see. I love Halloween!!

Friday Favorites: Master Bedroom Inspiration

Hello and Happy Friday! You all already know it's my favorite day of the week!! Today I am going to pretend that I am a big bad-ass home decor blogger and share with you some master bedroom inspiration. I need it. I need to get my act together and make my room an adult sanctuary! So let's ignore the fact that it took me days to put this board together and I like it but I am not exactly sure if it all goes together! Help a girl out, please!!

My Master Bedroom Inspiration

Polka dot bedding / Blue throw pillow, $19 / Queen headboard / Hokku Designs two drawer nightstand

1. I need a headboard. Right now it's just mattress and box spring on a frame. I want to attempt to make my own since I have seen so many tutorials online and they all look do-able. I think a nice grey fabric is a good neutral choice. If that doesn't work, I can always just hit up Kirklands and get this one here for under $200!

2. I currently have an orange comforter set from Target and I love this one also. I love orange. It brings such fun to a room, especially my room that has one row of itty-bitty windows. Oh and orange and grey go perfectly together so I think orange is a good choice.

3. This rug is heavenly. I'm just not sure if it's too much. I've never had a rug under my bed and to me, it makes the room look fancy and pulled together.

4. Black or dark nightstands. My first DIY project project was painting some IKEA furniture, along with some old bedroom furniture dark brown. I am over the whole matching bedroom furniture thing and I really want to mix it up. Can you re-paint over painted furniture? I'm not sure, might have to look up tutorials on that too. Like I said, not a bad-ass home/DIY blogger over here!

5. Curtains/drapes. I need them badly. I think a room is unfinished without curtains. I like light colored curtains. I think with the rug and comforter set, I am covered on the patterns. Oh and did you see the fun pillow? I need a fun accent piece or two, I'm an adult but I'm not ancient!

So, this is the start to my big room makeover. Tell me what your thoughts? Do you think all of this goes together? Should I start over? Any painting/headboard making tips?
