Football has arrived!! Need an easy tailgate recipe for this weekend? Well, I have you covered with these super easy and delicious Habanero Shrimp and Veggie Skewers!
Don't they look amazing? Well they are and I'm not lying when I tell you they are easy to make. The shrimp has a nice kick to it and come on, who doesn't love grilled veggies? This really is the perfect tailgating recipe!
Habanero Shrimp & Veggie Skewers
Ingredients:
1 pkg cocktail shrimp (about 41-50 count)
2 red onions, quartered
grape tomatoes
2 red bell peppers, quartered
2 zucchini, chopped
2 tbsp El Yucateco habanero hot sauce
1/2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
1/2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
1 tbsp olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
skewers
In a bowl, combine shrimp, 2 tbsp hot sauce, salt and pepper. Let marinate (anywhere from 10-20 minutes).
I used El Yucateco habanero hot sauce for my recipe. El Yucateco hot sauces come in various flavors from green chile habanero to a black label reserve habanero. I like the red chile habanero for my skewers. It is made form fresh red habanero peppers, tomato and select spices and seasonings. It's the perfect "all perfect" sauce. It packs some kick but with less vinegar so you get true hot sauce flavor!
Soak skewers in water. This helps the skewers maintain their shape and not burn while grilling.
Turn on grill (gas) or add charcoal to grill. Coat all veggies with olive oil and salt and pepper. Assemble skewers.
Add skewers to grill. Grill for about 5 minutes on one side. Flip. Grill for another 5 minutes. Remove from grill and serve!
I take these skewers to all our tailgates, especially when we want something different than burgers. We watch a lot of football in our home so I have had to get creative with recipes over the years! We're Cuban so we like lots of flavor in our foods. More flavor = amazing taste!!
El Yucateco hot sauce is available at your local Walmart in the condiments aisle.
We are ready for NFL kickoff on Sunday! What about you? How do you add a little flavor kick to your favorite tailgate recipes?
