Basketball season is upon us. We are a big sports family and we get together often to watch basketball games, especially the playoffs and the college games now in March. We always cheer for our hometown teams and always eat lots of food. One recipe I always make for game watching parties is oven baked hot & spicy chicken wings! These wings are a family favorite, especially because they are baked, not fried.

Like most recipes I share on the blog, these wings are very simple to make. I like easy. I cannot do a complicated recipe because let's face it, we all have other things we could be doing other than standing over our kitchen counters. These wings do have a long cooking time but you can be doing other things while they bake in the oven.

Oven Baked Hot & Spicy Chicken Wings
Prep time: 2 hours
Cooking Time: 1 hour
Serves 8

Ingredients:
2-3 lbs chicken wings (cut into wing and drumstick pieces)
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp tabasco sauce
1 cup hot buffalo sauce

In a medium sized bowl, add chicken wing pieces, flour, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, dreid parsley and tabasco sauce. Toss to coat. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator for at least one hour, preferably two.

Remove from refrigerator and re-toss chicken pieces in bowl.

My preferred method for baking wings so they come out crispy all over is to bake on a wire rack. If you don't have a wire rack, line a baking pan with aluminum foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Place wings on wire rack or baking pan, move to middle rack in oven and bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour. If you bake on a wire rack, make sure to place the wire rack over a drip pan. Turn wings half way during cooking to insure even crisping.

After baking, remove wings from oven. In a bowl, add your hot buffalo sauce. Then, dip each wing in the buffalo sauce, coat evenly and set on a serving dish.

Serve wings with a ranch or bleu cheese dip. These wings will be very spicy!

  1. We just made wings for the first time at home last night and were really battling with keeping things crispy and even sauced. I'm definitely going to try out the rack method next time and see if this helps! #client
