Chalkboard Paint Fun: Boys Dresser

I love Chalkboard paint. I think it is the funnest thing to be able to turn anything into a chalkboard with just a coat of paint. So when Adrian agreed to re-do his room (yes, he had to agree, obviously he runs stuff around here) I knew there had to be a chalkboard in there somewhere. I also knew it had to be in a fun, unexpected place. He also needed a new dresser. 1 + 1 = 2 right? New dresser + fun room = chalkboard painted dresser!!! Woot Woot!!

We went to Ikea and purchased two RAST chests since I knew they would be easy to paint (no need to sand or primer!). Then we went to Home Depot and bought painting supplies, including BEHR Hi-Gloss Enamel Paint in white.

The lovely folks at LULLABY PAINTS were so kind to send me a chalkboard paint kit in Royal Blue. I loved the fact that it was blue and not the basic black chalkboard. Their paints are No-VOC, no odor and durable. They have an amazing palette of colors to choose from, especially in chalkboard paints. The paint comes in these handy resealable pouches that are perfect for keeping touch up paint. You can check them out here.

So one afternoon after work, JC assembled the chests and we got to painting. He painted the outer part, while I painted the drawers and knobs. We were done with two coats in no time.  Once I made sure the drawers were completely dry, I rubbed them with the chalk provided in my kit. You need to do this whenever anything is painted with chalkboard paint. If not, whatever you write or draw will not erase. Then I just wiped it off with a damp cloth. I put everything together and grabbed my chalk. I came up with this:

P.S. Can you tell I am not the artist in the family??

I'm in love with this dresser. Like genuinely in love! I love the shiny white paint. I love drawing on it with chalk! Adrian loves it and now knows exactly where to store his clothes. I didn't take a picture of the second one yet but I will when I finish Adrian's room.

Have you painted anything with chalkboard paint? Are you in love with your finished product?

  1. This is brilliant. My husband can never figure out where any of the clothes are. I figure if I label the drawers, maybe he'll get it.

    1. It helps more than you can imagine. Adrian even puts away his own laundry now that he knows where it goes.

    1. It does Jessica. My son has even become a little anal in making sure things go in the right drawers.

  5. Oh my gosh, I LOVE this! My husband is always asking me what drawer stuff is in!

Too bad I think my toddler would wipe the words right off if we actually tried something like this....

  6. I have not painted anything with chalkboard paint, but I am now looking around my house trying to decide what would be a good candidate because that looks great!

Thank you for your sweet comment on Alexa's room over at the blog! I am kinda sad that it is done, I think I need a new project to think about - maybe one with chalkboard paint. :D
