Once upon a time, many, many years ago (the 80's), I wore granny glasses. Yes I said it. Glasses are one of the worst things that a kid could be subjected to wear. These days, kids have some super stylish glasses or they can wear contacts, but back in the 80's, we weren't so fortunate! My glasses were horrible. They were big, had major prescription and made me look like a total geek. Don't believe me? See for yourself!!
Yes, that was me at around 10 years old. I started wearing glasses when I was around 5 or 6. Before that, no one had realized that I couldn't see a thing. I hated wearing my glasses because they were heavy, they made my eyes look really tiny and I would get made fun of at school. I was shy and felt so ugly. Still, I had to wear my glasses all the time, as did my brother. My brother and I have terrible vision, almost legally blind and we had no other choice than to wear those horrendous glasses. Thankfully, in the early 90's children could start wearing contacts and as soon as my doctor recommended them for me, I got contacts. First, I wore these tiny little glass contacts, then I transitioned to soft contact lenses. I remember instantly feeling like a new girl. I could see without glasses. It was such an incredible experience. I was thrilled to go to school the next day as this new super confident girl. Who cares that I had crazy curly hair and bad clothes? I didn't have to wear my granny glasses anymore. I was a new person!!! Wearing contacts has really changed me and my self-esteem. I am a super confident person that can take on the world. I talk to people about letting their children wear contacts all the time and when Adrian is old enough, you can believe he will be wearing contacts (especially since he plays sports and he struggles with his glasses!)
Unfortunately, because of my high prescription and wearing contacts for the past 20 years or so, my eyes do need a break. Every night, I have to remove my contacts and wear a newer version of my granny glasses. I still look terrible in glasses but I just wear them at night and at home. Using the right contact solution to soak your contacts at night is important. I have tried out every brand out there and am loving the new Clear Care® Plus HydraGlyde Solution!
